Clay Bird Bowl & Friend!
This month Seán and I attended a forest bathing session followed by a pinch pottery workshop in the sacred forest at Knapp island/Shin Mei Centre. It was a lovely time! Terrice Bassler led the clay workshop and finished our work in her studio the following weeks, firing and glazing them with a traditional Japanese shino glaze.
Here are the results of my things:
- a bowl that I etched bird-designs into with a feather, and made impressions with some cedar leaves and a stone for some interesting pattern and texture effects
- a last-minute bird that I decided to make with some scrap clay — I realized afterwards that it would work well as a chopstick-rest (it does!)
I love the way the shino glaze transformed the red clay— so magical and mysterious the way it clings to certain parts and burns away from others, creating that luscious toasty texture :)
